Liquid Architecture is an Australian organisation for artists working with sound. LA investigates the sounds themselves, but also the ideas communicated about, and the meaning of, sound and listening.
Our program stages encounters and creates spaces for sonic experience, and critical reflection on sonority and systems of sonic affect. To do this, we host experiences at the intersection of contemporary art and experimental music, supporting artists to produce performances and concerts, exhibitions, talks, reading groups, workshops and recordings in art spaces, music venues and other sites.
Liquid Architecture is curatorially driven and our methodology embraces research, collaborations and imaginations. We want to echo beyond local conversations, problems, debates and questions, to reverberate across media and disciplines, and so to sound out new discourses about the audible world, and beyond.
We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first sovereign owners of this unceded country. We pay our respects to their Elders, past, present and becoming.

ONLINE COLLECTION NON-PERSONAL INFORMATION

Sisters Akousmatica at The Channel
Join Tasmanian artists Pip Stafford and Julia Drouhin (editors note: Julia is French Tasmanian!) as they discuss their work involving radiophonic broadcast experiments, occult vibrations and rituals, cosmic noise, chocolate LPs and more. The session will be part talk, part performance and whole opportunity to meet and get to know the artists.
This intimate presentation, at the Art Centre’s new music learning space The Channel, is part of Pip and Julia’s build up to their major project, Sisters Akousmatica,which has been developed through Next Wave’s Emerging Curators Program in partnership with Liquid Architecture and will be presented at Next Wave Festival 2016.
Sisters Akousmatica is a city-scale radio acousmonium that focuses on the concept of ‘akousma’ – sound removed from its source. Using radio broadcast technology, sounds will be distributed to multiple listening spaces across the city, creating a sonic web of live performances by a collective of radical women sound artists.
Full details for this work will be revealed on 15 March when the entire Next Wave program goes public. We can’t wait!
Drouhin and Stafford use radios, transmitters, crystals, hurdy gurdy and field recordings in acts of sound divination and occult listening. Their collective interests lie in radio arts, auditory-spatial practices and the intersection of gender and emergent art forms.
