Veronica Kent is an Australian based artist involved in two parallel practices:


‘The Telepathy Project’ (TP)* is a collaboration between Veronica and Sean Peoples that considers the possibility that telepathy might exist as a starting point to explore a range of interrelated questions on collaboration, intimacy, perception and interpretation. Telepathy serves as both a metaphor and a prompt for the generation of works that have included events made with people from around the world at varying physical distances and degrees of intimacy that have manifested as curatorial projects, lectures, musicals, drawings, paintings, dream experiments, institutional interventions and group happenings.



Veronica’s solo practice incorporates painting, photography, installation and collage to explores narratives and portraits of characters (both real and imagined) engaged in moments of wonder, and how these acts/states connect us to each other and to place

Veronica Kent

Jon Smeathers is an experimental musician, composer, and improviser based in nipaluna/Hobart.

Recognised for his versatility and cutting edge projects, Jon taps into the potential of algorithmic displacement, codecs and remix culture to enable a reimagination of one's spectral and rhythmic currents. His seminal music blends the radical aesthetics of bubblegum pop, noise, free jazz, techno, kpop, electro-acoustics and footwork into a mesh of lyrical dynamics, extreme tempos and emotional ecstasy that is strengthened by his collaborative efforts. Jon is a member of the hyperpop noisecore band Reptrillion culture club and is the founder of YouTube mix label ?ℭ? Mixtapes through which Jon has developed a unique practice that utilises YouTube as sonic performance tool. 

He is a member of the punk duo Lil Ratso X, curator of Huh!pink, and has collaborated with Australia's leading electro-acoustic ensembles including the Splinter Orchestra, the Australian Art Orchestra and the Phonetic Orchestra. He is internationally recognised for his chopped and screwed music, film scores and no input mixing board performances as James Oakfield alongside his deconstructed DJ mixes as ?ℭ?.

Jon Smeathers is an experimental musician, composer, and improviser based in nipaluna/Hobart.

Presented as part of MONA FOMA 2022, artists Veronica Kent and Jon Smeathers take on the Instrument Builders Project mantle in the form of an Atelier producing a collection of ‘personally tuned wearable acoustic pieces’ that can be experienced by visitors during bespoke fittings.

Over the past year, IBP curators, Lisa Campbell-Smith, Kristi Monfries, and LA artistic Director, Joel Stern, have developed a new model to continue to provide a platform in the face of challenges brought about through the pandemic, Extending the space for experimentation a through research, critical reflection, and development with artists from Australia, Indonesia and Japan.
